Just back from a lovely weekend patrol camp. Super site, liked hall, campfire circle, wood pile. We walked on the field footpath over road and bridge to Heatherslaw.about 25mins to get the (pre-booked discounted) train to Etal, an hour there and came back. Visited Heatherslaw mill (pre-book) and they gave us a tour, baked bread and sent us onwards with dough for dampers for our campfire. Guides loved the dressing up. Down to +3C overnight, early Sept but at least the chill got rid of the mozzies. We didn’t book any onsite activities.

This is a great site for scouting . Cooking fires, camp fires, teaching fire lighting for all ages. The site is quiet and is close to Ford village. Walks can be short or long with many footpaths about. Ideal for tents and protection from high winds.
A hall is on site if bad weather causes a problem.
The best way is to see it and try it.
I and 5th Berwick have camped here very often.

We’ve used this camp a coupe of times now and despite it being an hour away from our home base we;ll be using it many times more.

The site is fantastic, surrounded by trees in a sheltered location that gives a very secluded experience. There’s plenty to do in and around the site given the number of walks and wooded areas. The indoor facilities are excellent for cooking with a large main hall should this be required for dining or wet weather activities.

Given you get the whole site with a booking, it’s great value for money too.

Helped out at a camp here. Brilliant site.
Den building, campfires, exploring in the wooded area, all on site, then there are the walks and activities round about. Great to use the kitchen in the building and the hall for meals, tables outside too. Fab to see all the young people taking part and getting stuck in to activities outdoor and in.
